top-ten (1)1. Research and prepare
The VT process is always changing and it is always under review. Do not make any assumptions and especially don't rely on information from last years candidates.Thoroughly research into the different Deaneries/Postgraduate Centres and their procedures

2.    Don't leave it all to the last minute

Once you receive an application form, read it through thoroughly before filling anything out and check the closing date. Check the method of submission as electronic differs greatly from paper applications

3.    Ensure you know they have received your application
A simple action such as submitting a self addressed envelope within your application and asking them to return it, ensures that you are confident that they have received it

4.    Sell yourself through powerful writing
Be positive and affirmative to get your message across in a concise way. There is nothing more off putting than a long winded response to questions or answers that  lack direction or depth

5.    Tailor your style
You must adapt your application and interview style depending on what Deanery/Postgraduate Centre you are applying for

6.    Less is more
Don't oversell yourself or your clinical experience. Experienced trainers may doubt a dental student overselling their competence

7.    Understand a respect the role of each team member
The whole team often is involved in deciding who joins the practice and you will have to work together with every member of the team. Politeness to the whole practice goes a long way

8.    Be aware of current issues in Dentistry
You need to prove that you are astute to the every changing world of Dentistry. Preparing yourself with the latest issues will ensure that you are continually learning and developing yourself

9.    Dress and act appropriately when attending for interview
Portraying a professional appearance will help to create positive first impressions
