At this year’s Dentolegal Study Day, experts will explore issues around professional standards and regulatory guidance.
This year’s conference on 16 October 2015 features an expert panel of speakers who will focus on dental law and ethics – a core requirement in professional development. Dental Director, Kevin Lewis, will open the conference by discussing the issue of Professional standards and their escalating impact on the dental profession. He will aim to help delegates to understand the legal background to professional standards in the UK, by explaining the use and abuse of guidelines and advisory documents.
Dental Director, Kevin Lewis, said:
“It is more likely that dentists will find themselves accused of having fallen below an acceptable standard, if the required standards are misunderstood or are set at the wrong level in the first place. That is sadly where we find ourselves.”
The General Dental Council’s (GDC) Policy Manager, Katherine Boorer will be presenting on Standards for the dental team – reaching a balance providing an explanation of the process undertaken prior to the publication of new GDC guidance. This will provide delegates with an understanding of the statutory obligations to set and publish professional guidance, as well as stakeholder contributions.
Jonathan Green, GDC Director of Fitness to Practise (FTP) will present the case for the GDC that their FTP procedures are fit for purpose, in the way that they approach professional standards.
